All second and third graders have been involved in the First Move program all year long.
Once a week the student’s are introduced to a new lesson by video from the “Chess Lady”. The students practice, review, and play the game.
The Chess Lady made a special appearance while the entire second and third graders gathered in the gym for a good game of chess.
Mr. Randy Poe, Boone County Superintendent, stopped by during the presentation from the Chess Lady and guided a few moves.
During her presentation she focused on analyze each move, plan each move, and then execute. A practice we could all apply in everyday life. Not to mention the many life skills the kids are learning by engaging in chess. Their over-all performance has improved because they are using higher levels of thinking skills, problem-solving, decision making, and logical reasoning.
